Class 86/2 No. 86253 The Manchester Guardian stands in Platform 5 at Manchester Piccadilly on 22nd February 1985. Built as E3136 at Doncaster and added to stock on 25th December 1965 and under TOPS became 86044 on 1st February 1974. The AL6 entered Crewe Works on 11th November 1974 for conversion and emerged on 10th January 1975 as 86253. The 86 was off lease on 1st November 2002 and moved to Glasgow Works. It was then moved to Brush Traction, Loughborough on 18th May 2004 for conversion to a mobile load bank and became 86901 on 22nd December 2004 and painted into Network Rail yellow. It worked with 86902 and was based at Rugby until moved to LNWR Crewe Carriage Sidings on 13th March 2006.It moved to Derby with 86902 and the pair have recently moved to C.F.Booth Rotherham for scrapping.
