13th August 2002 in the sidings to the east of Thornaby TMD were two lines of locomotives that would see no further service. On the nearest siding from the front are Class 37 No. 37055, Class 86 No. 86416, Class 56 No. 56039 and Class 37 No. 37139. Behind are Class 37's Nos. 37515, 37680, 37672, and 37673. Of particular note is the presence of the Class 86. It had been dragged here for wheel-turning but would not return to revenue earning service.
