A general view of Reddish MPD taken on Sunday 19th March 1978. Class 76 No. 76050 can be seen grounded to the right of the Class 506 EMUs. This had been withdrawn in February 1977 and dumped to enable it's bogies to be re-used. On the far right hand siding are seven Class 76 locos, the 3rd loco in is actually a Class 24 No. 24022. The next two sidings appear to hold various DMU vehicles, Reddish having a wheel lathe usually had plenty of visitors in for wheel turning. The two sidings nearest the Shed building hold five of the fleet of Class 506 three-car EMUs used on the Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield and Glossop services and a Class 45 Peak loco. There were no Sunday services on this line so all bar one of the 506s were stabled around the depot, the final one being at nearby Guide Bridge. Finally half of a Class 304 25Kv EMU is in the left foreground the other half being inside on the wheel lathe. Reddish MPD initially survived the end of services on the Woodhead Route but closed on 30th April 1983 being demolished in the 1990s and today the site is used for housing development.
