Class 40 No. 40173 stabled on Eastfield MPD Glasgow on Saturday 3rd June 1978. New to the London Midland Region in January 1962 as No. D373, she had been renumbered as No. 40173 during December 1973 and transferred from Longsight MPD Manchester to Haymarket MPD Edinburgh during May 1974. No. 40173 was vacuum braked only, as can be seen in this photo, so was quite an early casualty and withdrawl took place in September 1981 when still a Haymarket loco. Later moved to Perth Yard, where the bogies were removed to be converted to beilhack snowploughs, the body lingered on supported on two small stacks of old sleepers until moved to TW Ward's yard at Inverkeithing during May 1985 and scrapped.
