1500V DC Class 506 EMU No. 59404, 59504, 59604 stabled in Guide Bridge sidings Manchester on Sunday 19th March 1978. The eight units of this class entered service during 1954 on the Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield and Glossop services and remained on this one route until it was upgraded to 25KV and they were withdrawn in December 1984 when surplus Class 303 units from the Glasgow area replaced them. The unit pictured here was purchased for preservation initially being stored at the BR DMU Depot at Hammerton Street Bradford, later moving to the Midland Railway Centre, Butterley. Unfortunately the 3 car unit deteriorated to a point where it was scrapped in August 1995.
