BR Mogul No. 78018 waits among the weeds in Barry Scrapyard, South Wales on Sunday 25th August 1968. Built at Darlington Works in March 1954 and initially allocated to West Auckland MPD in the North East of England, withdrawl came after a life of just over 12 years in December 1966 from Shrewsbury MPD. No. 78018 arrived at Barry in June 1967, so had been here for just over a year when this photo was taken. She seems to be fairly complete at this time with traces of lining visible around the cab side. Eventually sold for preservation No. 78018 departed Barry 10 years later during October 1978, initially returning to her birthplace in Darlington. Hopefully 2014 will see the loco return to steam, after 47 years, as final restoration is currently taking place at the Great Central Railway.
