Class 40 No. 40084 is stabled on Haymarket MPD on Sunday 22nd January 1978. New as D284 in July 1960 she was renumbered under TOPS to No. 40084 during December 1973. An Eastern Region loco for many years including spells at York and Healey Mills withdrawal was to occur during a visit to BREL Crewe Works during May 1983 because of bogie fractures. Repairs could not be justified due to the class being phased out. Scrapping was completed at Crewe Works during May 1984.
