Class 40 No. 40072 dumped at the end of a siding in Millerhill Yard on a very grey Sunday 22nd January 1978. Transferred from York to Haymarket MPD during March 1975 withdrawal, in August 1977, had already taken place by the date of this photo. Only the fourteenth Class 40 to be taken out of service, its vacuum only braking system probably contributed to an early withdrawal. Scrapping took place at the BREL Works in Glasgow during June 1978.
