Some of the roads inside the roundhouse at Barrow Hill MPD were a little tight for the large freight locos as can be judged by this photo of Class 56 No. 56007 taken on 5th June 1988. The front bogie wheelset is not resting on the stop block at the end of the road but the off side buffer is very close to the shed wall. It would have been very interesting to watch shunting operations inside the roundhouse. A Class 58 at the opposite corner of the roundhouse looks equally tightly parked.
