What must be one of the mightiest locos built in the UK, Class GL 4-8-2- 2-8-4 Garratt No. 2352 built by Beyer Peacock at Gorton Works and exported to South African Railways in 1930 sits in Manchester Museum of Science& Industry. With a tractive effort of 89000lbs and a weight of 211 tons it dwarfs anything to run on British Railways and all this on 3-6 gauge on 15th January 2013.
