Christmas could be celebrated over the Settle/Carlisle line on 15th December 2012 as the 'Edinburgh Christmas Statesman' ran from Hull to Edinburgh via Leeds and Carlisle. Unusually for a charter train the excursion was scheduled to pick up at some of the stations along the S&C. Here, West Coast Class 47 No. 47786 Roy Castle OBE is pictured taking the train north past Birkett Common with Class 57/6 No. 57601 on the rear.
