On 3rd July 2006 former SAR 2-8-2 Tootsie hauls an Outeniqua Tjoe Tjoe (choo choo in Afrikaans) from George towards Knysna. Subsequently, torrential rains and flooding caused huge damage to the trackbed and the line was closed. Despite its massive visitor popularity, funds for repair and re-opening have been hard to find and the line remains closed.
