It was not only steam that needed a pilot over the South Devon Banks, Class 47/0 No. 47030 is being uncoupled from Class 47/4 No. 47427 at Exeter St Davids on 23rd March 1982, having assisted it from Penzance. The former loco was later to become Class 47/4 No. 47618 Fair Rosamund and finally No. 47836. It started life as D1609. Strangely Class 47/4 No. 47427 was an earlier example starting life as No. D1535.
