On 14th September 1986 Class 56 No. 56040, seen at Breadcroft Lane, Maidenhead, was unusually rostered to work the 10:15 Paddington - Weston Super Mare with 'the generator set'. The leading BG contains the generator for on-board power. Attempting to maintain HST timings proved to much for No. 56040 and it failed at Swindon.
