During the period when the class 442s were being built for the Bournemouth/Weymouth route, many hybrid formations emerged as the 4-REPs were withdrawn and their motors re-used in the new units. Here, unit No. 2601 (with crudely-painted number) is formed of CIG vehicles sandwiching a loco-hauled buffet car in 1983.
