What kind of images do you want for Railway Herald Magazine?
We welcome all images from contributors, but especially those with a news or rarity value. Railway Herald is primarily a news magazine, featuring content from the past 7-10 days, and where possible, we try and use imagery and video content that has been taken within that time scale.
Any imagery which has a news value is always worth submitting. It may be the first or last working of a new traffic flow, or repainted locomotive, a one-off or rare service, a locomotive-hauled train operating on a normally multiple unit worked line. These are just examples, but give an idea of the type of imagery used.
Elsewhere in the magazine, our "Exposure" section aims to portray the best in modern traction, and occasionally steam, photography. These images should ideally be very pictorial or landscape photographs, or those that take a different viewpoint to the standard front-three-quarter images. Artist images are always welcomed, as are those that set the railway network in its surroundings.
For news reports, we are always looking for images to illustrate potential stories. Where the heritage railways are concered, images that feature newly restored locomotives or rolling stock, newly installed signalling or infrastructure, or for those photographers who are actively involved in the railway, behind-the-scenes views from workshops or maintenance crews, although where necessary, please check with the railway concerned that they are happy for the pictures to be published.
