Greater Anglia has signed a contract with Vossloh Kiepe UK for a major upgrade of its Mk3 carriages.
The work will involve all of the coaching stock fleet being enhanced, with improvements throughout for both First Class and Standard Class carriages. There are to be plug points, new LED lighting, new carpets, tables and seat covers provided, together with upgraded environmentally-friendly controlled emission toilets, new floors and new taps, and repainting of the interior saloon and vestibule panels, walls and ceilings. Exterior painting of all the carriages is also currently taking place as part of a separate programme. The work will be undertaken at a specially prepared facility at Crown Point Depot in Norwich, and the first refurbished stock is due to enter service in the first quarter of next year, with the full programme completed by the end of the train operator's current franchise in October 2016. Work to prepare the site in Norwich is already underway, and key materials needed as part of the project are in the process of being ordered.
The Mk3 fleet are already going through a C6 maintenance programme at Wolverton Works, which includes an external repaint, but does not affect the interior of the trains.
