MARKING 10 YEARS OF PUBLICATION

Railway Herald is marking the 10th anniversary of its first publication with Issue 444.

In that time, the magazine has grown both in circulation and the number of pages each issue, the first was only four pages! The Editorial team has grown from just the Editor to our present team of four, being joined by Brian Morrison John Whitehouse, and Andrew Fowler, with contributions over the years from Ken Brunt, Keith Fender, Peter Lovell, Fred Kerr, Leon Oberg, Bill Turvill and Phil Wormald, to name but a few. We have been helped, advised, assisted, by many well known individuals who are connected with the railway media, and the outcome has been a title that we are are, justifiably, very proud of.

When the first issue appeared, the PDF format within magazines was only just starting to be introduced and a number of people seemed to sit up and take note. It was the first magazine in the rail industry to be released in a digital format and 10 years after publication of Issue 1, the team has published over 12,300 pages of content.

As ever our thanks go to the contributors, especially the photographers without whom we could not continue, and without whom the pages would not be as pictorial as they are - it is impossible for the Editorial team to be everywhere.

The railway network has moved forward in many ways over the last 10 years, and in some cases changed out of all recognition, in others it is remarkably similar. Within this issue, we have compiled a few sights and sounds of the railway from 2005, in an attempt to show some of those changes over the last decade.
