On 22nd March 2021, Freightliner Class 90 No. 90005 Vice Admiral Lord Nelson crosses the River Blythe at Hampton in Arden on a training run returning to Crewe from Northampton. I'm standing in front of an attractive 15th century packhorse bridge. It was in use for around 400 years before it was joined by the railway viaduct in the late 1830s. Soon to join them not far beyond will be the 21st century concrete version as HS2 arrives. Hopefully a natural alternative to palisade fencing will one day be considered by Network Rail for this historic site and nature reserve.
