Carrying Set No. 401 under the drivers cab Class 126 DMBSL No. SC51031 is stabled on Ayr MPD on 2nd May 1978. Allocated to Ayr since delivery in May 1959, it would be involved in a tragic accident on 16th April 1979 due to passing a red signal on leaving Paisley Gilmour Street station while working an Ayr to Glasgow Central service and colliding head on with a Glasgow Central to Wemyss Bay Class 303 EMU just east of the station causing 7 fatalities and many injuries.
