This week sees the start of direct services between Bedwyn and Paddington using 5-car IET bi-mode sets instead of 3-car turbo diesels. The turnback siding at Bedwyn had to be extended to accommodate the new trains and is being put to use by No. 800009 'Sir Gareth Edwards' during its brief stopover before working back to Paddington on 23rd May 2019. An opportunely late-running empties from Allington to Whatley Quarry appears behind DBC Class 59/2 No. 59203 just in time to complete the image before the IET noiselessly moves off to the up main line - seen from the relocated footpath crossing.
