As a result of the ECML being closed north of Berwick for engineering works, some Virgin Trains East Coast services were diverted from Newcastle to Carlisle where they joined the WCML to continue their journey to their Scottish destination. Here, Virgin Trains East Coast Class 43/2 powercars Nos. 43317 and 43206 cross over at Carlisle South Junction on its approach to the station, heading the 09:00 London King's Cross to Edinburgh service on 16th September 2017.
