LMS Stanier 4-6-0 Black 5s No. 44845 and No. 45255, along with LMS Stanier Class 8F 2-8-0 No. 48620 were all withdrawn at the end June 1968 at the closure of Newton Heath Depot (9D) to steam, and are seen on this Depot on the evening of 4th August 1968, the day when several 'End of Steam' specials had run in the Manchester area.
