In the days of a sleeper portion from Newcastle to London, Class 45 No. 45106 acts as shunting/heating locomotive for the stock which will be attached to the southbound sleeper to London for an 01.18 departure. This was normally a Class 47 duty. No. 45106 was withdrawn in February 1989 and scrapped in April 1992.
