Scotrail Class 158 BREL 'Express Sprinter' No. 158705 stands at Kyle of Lochalsh Station prior to working the 15:12 service to Inverness on 2nd July 2017. The Skye Road Bridge, started in 1992 and opened on 16th October 1995 to replace the ferry and revolutionise road transport to and from the island, can be seen on the right of the photograph. Originally a toll bridge, the Skye population campaigned vociferously for the tolls to be abolished and this finally happened on 21st December 2004 when the bridge was purchased by the Scottish Government.
