The last Class 25s seen on the mainline were the Class 25/3s that were converted for use as mobile generators for train heating. Here No. 97251 (25305) "Ethel 2" and No. 97252 (25314) "Ethel 3" are seen stabled at Carlisle on 12th August 1989. Despite being in Intercity livery to match coaching stock these locomotives were disliked by railway enthusiasts, particularly when used behind steam locomotives, and they were eventually scrapped in August 1994.
