A rare sighting of a Class 40 on the Mainline occurred on 4th July 2017, when No. 345 (40145) left its home base of the East Lancashire Railway and travelled to Derby to collect Class 56 No. 56006 which had been taken to Etches Park for wheel turning. The pair of locomotives are then seen at Catholme on the 15:25 Derby to Crewe Heritage Centre light engine movement.
