Great Southern Rail 'Indian Pacific' pauses for fuel and water at Cook (Pop. 4) South Australia on 13th March having left Perth the previous day on its 4352 km 65 hour journey to Sydney. The 774 metre 1400 tonne train consists of 31 carriages including two power vans, each containing three 180 Kva generators, and six restaurant lounge cars. The 22 metre 132 tonne Pacific National locomotive NR25, powered by a single 3,000� kW (4,000� hp) GE Transportation Systems 7FDL-16 engine, was built by Goninan at Broadmeadow NSW in 1997. The Narabor plains section, at 478 km, is the longest straight track in the world.
