Soviet built KTZ (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy) series VL80S No. 2588 stands in Almaty 2 Station awaiting its next duty on 17th February 2017. These locomotives were manufactured between 1961 and 1995, the longest production span of any Soviet electric locomotive. The S designation indicates that the locomotive has been modified for multitrain control.
