The unique Class 87/1 No. 87101 'Stephenson' is seen in a weed covered Basford Hall Yard, Crewe attending the Open Day held there on 27th August 1995. Mainly used on Freight Traffic No. 87101 retained her BR blue livery all her life and unlike the Class 87/0's who were all allocated to Willesden TMD No. 87101 was allocated to Crewe Electric Depot whose emblen can be seen on the near cabside. She also carried raised metal numbers on the drivers cabsides rather than transfers and unusually had her 'Stephenson' name displayed in capital letters and in a different font compared to her Class 87/0 cousins. Although the 36th and last Class 87 to enter service when released from BREL Crewe Works in March 1975 she was also the first to be withdrawn in March 2001. Harry Needle Railroad Company dismantled the loco during February 2002 at their Barrow Hill site.
