Class 84 No. ADB968021 was just weeks away from destruction when she appeared at the Open Day held in Crewe Basford Hall Yard on 27th August 1995. The ten members of the AL4 class were all built by the North British Locomotive Works at their Hyde Park Works Glasgow. ADB968021 was the ninth to be built entering BR service as AL4 No. E3044 during December 1960. Due to mechanical issues all were stored for several years before being rebuilt, dual brake equipped and renumbered No. E3044 becoming Class 84 No. 84009. This didn't cure their problems and No. 84009 was withdrawn during August 1978 passing into BR Departmental service at Derby RTC as a mobile load-bank being renumbered as ADB968021. Taken out of use in December 1992 her final movement was to Gwent Demolition, Margam South Wales in September 1995 where she was cut up by the end of the year.
