On 12th November 2016 in perfect weather conditions the 10:24 Gornergratbahn service from Zermatt has recently arrived in platform 1 at Gornergrat Summit Station in southern Swithzerland. Formed of 1993 built twin railcars Bhe4/8 No. 3051 and 2006 built Bhe4/6 No. 3083 they have climbed 4,824 feet during the 9.4 km journey from Zermatt. Gornergrat station at 10,132 feet above sea level is the highest open air station in Europe but is dwarfed by the 14,692 ft Matterhorn mountain seen in the left background. The Gornergratbahn is one of four rack (mountain) railways in the world electrified using a three-phase system which requires two overhead wires and two pantographs.
