Stabled inside a very clean and tidy Barrow Hill roundhouse on 7th June 1986 is locally based Class 08 No. 08871. Built at BR Derby Works as No. D4039 she entered service from Sheffield Grimethorpe Shed during November 1960. No. 08871 never strayed far from Sheffield and was allocated to Barrow Hill MPD from at least 1974 until 1986, later being transferred to Tinsley TMD from where she was withdrawn during October 1990, latterly running with an unofficial 'Barrow Hill' painted nameplate. Following 10 years of storage No. 08871 was sold into industrial use in April 2001 and, in early 2016, is currently undergoing accident damage repairs at Wolsingham on the Weardale Railway.
