Class 126 DMSL No. 50936 rests on Ayr MPD on 15th October 1978. Built at BR Swindon Works during 1959 the class were unusual in having a gangway connection with a buckeye coupling, as seen here, at one end of the 3 car unit and a standard full width cab at the other which enabled a 6 car unit to be assembled with corridor connections along the full length of the train. Always allocated to Ayr MPD the fleet worked services between Glasgow Central, Ayr and Stranraer for over twenty years. No. 50936 was withdrawn from service in March 1982 and the whole class had gone by August 1982 in part because of their non standard white star coupling code. Due to the presence of asbestos in the bodywork the vast majority were scrapped by Mayer Newman, Snailwell including No. 50936 which succumbed during October 1982.
