The NRM sent a number of its exhibits out on tour in 1990 while its base at York was being re-developed. Thus it was that BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No. 92220 'Evening Star' was back in Swindon works 30 years after it had famously emerged from there in 1960 as the last steam loco built for BR, to be followed just 3 years later by Class 52 diesel hydraulic No. D1023 'Western Fusilier' standing next to it with its transmission on show. This view of the 'NRM on Tour' exhibition in July 1990 is completed by LNER A4 Class No. 4468 'Mallard'.
