Class 40 No. 40047 is stabled outside Motherwell MPD on Sunday 2nd April 1978 in the company of a disc headcode fitted Class 20 and a split headcode Class 37/0. Delivered to BR in November 1959 as Type 4 No. D247 it was dual braked and renumbered under TOPS as Class 40 No. 40047 in the early 1970s. Allocated to Healey Mills MPD in 1974, it had been transferred to Longsight MPD by 1981 and would remain at the Manchester Depot until with the general rundown of the class she was withdrawn with severe bogie cracks during November 1984. Towed across the Pennines, the loco was scrapped at BR Doncaster Works in January 1986.
