Class 304 EMU No. 304040 is seen in Platform 1 at Crewe Station on Saturday 12th January 1991 with a service to Altrincham via Stockport less than 12 months before all services on the Manchester to Altrincham line were withdrawn pending conversion to Metrolink Tram operation. Delivered to BR from it's Wolverton Workshops in August 1961 this unit would continue in service for a further four years after this image was taken, being withdrawn in April 1995 and dragged up the WCML to Glasgow where it was scrapped by MC Metals Processing during June 1996.
