Quietly ticking over in one of the south end Parcels platforms at Newcastle Station on Saturday 13th December 1986 is dual braked Class 03 No. 03078. Built by BR Doncaster Works in December 1959 as No. D2078 she was a long term resident in the Newcastle area being allocated to Gateshead TMD for many years. Withdrawl, during January 1988, occurred just over 1 year after this photo was taken while still allocated to Gateshead. Preservation did not move No. 03078 from Tyneside as approaching 25 years after being taken out of BR service she can still be found at the North Tyneside Steam Railway, North Shields.
