Class 47/4 No. 47973 approaches Penmaenmawr and runs parallel with the main A55 North Wales trunk road while working a London Euston to Holyhead train on 20th August 1989. The loco was repainted in Midland red livery and named 'Midland Counties 150 1839 - 1989' to celebrate 150 years of the Midland Railway and had just been renumbered to 47973 from No. 97561, which it carried to denote its allocation to the departmental sector. The loco had also been numbered 47561, 47034 and D1614 during its life. It was withdrawn in October 1996 and cut up at Crewe works by MRJ Phillips in March 1997.
