E3083 is a unique example of a coach which was developed in 1957 with a number of other unique experimental coaches. E3083 is a first class open coach fitted with reclining seats which originally also swivelled. It was built in 1957 at Doncaster and after initial evaluation was put into service, finishing up being employed on trains from Paddington to Oxford when it was withdrawn in 1972. It came to the Severn Valley in 1973 where it has been employed ever since, dropping out of service in the 1980's for a thorough overhaul and more recently emerging from its latest overhaul and repaint into maroon in 2009. It is usually found attached to the Severn Valleys LNER set of stock given its initial pedigree. A superb example of restoration and design.
