Class 50 No. 50038 'Formidable' was involved in an incident at Plymouth on the evening of 4th July 1988, having arrived from London Waterloo and been detatched to run round, the loco moved clear of the station and then ran back through station, to remove stock to Laira depot, unfortunately the points had not been set correctly and the loco ran back onto the same line as stock and hit coaches, pushing them up over the buffers. Later in the week 50038 was seen heading back to London, presumably for repair with the slightly damaged cab coupled next a rake of parcels stock.
