BR experimental Gas Turbine-Electric No. 18000 sits outside the main shed at Didcot Railway Centre, on the 7th July 2012. Originally ordered by the GWR in 1946, it proved to be unreliable and did not live up to expectations. After withdrawal in 1960, it was used for testing on mainland Europe and displayed at a museum in Austria until being returned to the UK in the 1990's.
